This morning, Tredhed and I headed up to the cabin to check things out after last weeks ice storm. We had some time before lunch, so we headed to Auger Falls in the Siamese Ponds Wilderness Area for a quick explore. While this is technically a Wilderness Area, it does see a lot of use. The trail register was bulging at the seams as we donned our spikes and signed into the woods.

Walking counter clockwise, the well marked, yellow disked loop trail cuts over the top of a small hill.

It passes through some nice mixed forest glistening with yesterdays dusting.

The trail then enters a solid grove of hemlocks as it approaches the falls.

While the falls were iced over, they were still impressive. The ledges, the rushing water, the massive ice formations all play a part in painting the winter scenery.

We couldn't think of a better way to relax and enjoy the sights and sounds around us than sipping on a piping hot cup of cocoa. A tradition we started doing a dozen years ago and plan on continuing for some time.

A little exploring showed us the ice buildup from last weeks ice storm. No wonder so many people lost power. Still pretty impressive.

The spruce and hemlock trees were coated in ice and snow, making for an interesting traverse.

The loop trail continued upstream where it closely paralleled the course of the Sacandaga River.

A few more minutes found us back at the well plowed parking lot. I can't remember the last time we were the only vehicle in this lot as it's usually filled with eager adventure seekers. I wouldn't call us adventure seekers, but we enjoyed an hour in the big woods this morning and look forward to our next adventure.
