Canoe trip to White lake Sacandaga River !

My Freiend Al and I took a day trip to white lake, we packed the canoe and headed up the Sacandaga River, we carried the canoe about 1/4 mile and paddled up the river, it was wild, we had several bever dam crossings, but it felt good to get our feet wet. nothing to bad, we got to white lake and it was very quiet, the state staring stocking it again, so we tried our luck. the lake was small but very beautfiul and peace full there was a few camping areas and alot of room to make your own, the lake and river all day was all ours. on the was back, we tried our luck in the river, we caught several small brookis, it was alot of fun, a great day, i pan to go back and spend a few nights there to discover the area, you can find it on the map south of silver lake in the southern adirondacks. the trail map has it, it was a great trip a little packing, a great canoe trip, fishing, lunch on the water. the only thing i forgot was my coors lite... peace Dan

Wow! You telling me that most of that area is paddleable by canoe? When did you do this trip?

I have been considering the possibility of doing the WB from the source, Meco Lake as a bushwhack/paddle all the way to the confluence with Piseco Outlet. I didn't think there would be enough water for a canoe or Yak until around Route 10.

Anytime you looking for a companion, let me know. I Love to Bushwhack.

Have you been into Hell Devil Yet? I've been in a couple of times, from the North (Blackbridge) and have not found the actual Dam Site Yet. I imagine if you have been up there it was either up The Notch or via the Three Ponds?

Tractor and Mel live off that dirt extension of Barlow Road. Just to the left of where the dirt road turns to the South and goes over Stony Creek.

Any way to get permission to go up Cathead? At least for locals? Going to PM yopu my phone number

I haven't been in to hell devil, but many have though from our search team in the past. I have it listed on my old 1910 map. from what I hear the dam is gone. Would like to attempt this sometime. Let me know if you want to try this sometime.

Anyone get up to the plane wreck near Lewie lake (blue ridge mtns) ? Some of our team plan to make a trek this late summer or fall for a overnight. Anyone interested please let me know. Have been there twice, hiked in (bushwhacked) from the south which was a pain. Going the usual way is easier. Most of the wreckage is still there, even found boot soles on the ground. A group that seeks out military wrecks left a nice plaque on the wing in remembrance of the three people lost there. Very interesting story on how it was found. They were lost for a year before the wreckage was spotted, by accident, on day the atom bomb was first dropped on japan. There is a web site for this.

I've gone in from the the North and it's one tough bushwhack. It's hand over hand once you get into the notch and have to go up.

I would really like to try this by way of Goldmine creek which is where the logs were floated down to the West branch. it can also be reached from the NPT, as well as through The Notch from the south and upthrough the Three Ponds.

Would like to try this from the outflow end you mentioned. Maybe sometime later this summer? keep in touch and we can plan this with a few good guys from our team that I know would like to do this. I have never been there myself but would like to check this out.
Got involved with old trains in the adirondacks some years ago and enjoy hiking in to find old wrecks etc. Always looking to see something interesting. Bushwacking is great if you plan properly and would like to do this sometime this summer.

I recently hiked up to a 1955 TWA wreckage on Sandia Peak, NM. There's a memorial plaque there amongst all the torn and twisted aluminum at 9500 feet. Another 500 feet and they would have made it. It was quite a moving experience, especially since I was taking a course to be an aircraft mishap/crash site investigator at the time (though I did the wreckage hike on my own). I'd be up for a bushwhack visit to the Adirondack site.
