There was an inch of semi-packed powder which increased to around 4 or 5" with elevation gain. Some crusty ice. Old Dix Trail - Bare boots. Felix Adler - we used crampons for the three steep, though short, icy sections of this trail. They were overkill on the rest of the trail though. One blowdown about a quarter of the way up the FA trail.
Crampons are recommended. The first two icy sections could probably be avoided by venturing off trail. However, the section before the final approach would be tough and dangerous without them.
Spectacular views. After my summer ascent, this peak went to the top of my winter reclimb list. I was not disappointed. A great place to finish off the '06 hiking season.
