I usually get lazy and just copy and paste the trip report I post on VFTT, but the Treadway report is worthy of more than something generic like that (even though I'm sure the repeat myself a bit). What an amazing little mountain. Trail conditions varied from no snow to ice to a thin crusty layer. I would recommend the use of something like Yak Traks...we used crampons but it was definitely overkill. Some would feel fine barebooting no doubt, but my fear of injury convinced me to be safe rather than sorry, and the ice was quite glare in several spots. Blowdown was also an issue from the beginning of the SW Pond trail to the Treadway junction (we walked across the frozen pond). A couple more after that as well.
Hiking along a seemingly neverending ridge near the summit was pure joy, as was seeing my favorite place on earth (Pharaoh Lake) from up high. The high peaks were also spectacular, with Marcy, Haystack, Basin, Saddleback, Giant, RPR, and many others seemingly waving at me. Dix, on the other hand, looked as if it was flipping me the bird, then i realized it was the beckhorn
All in all, an unbelievable day....didn't get any pics though (my bro did) because of camera issues
Though it didn't put a damper on anything.
