    Harriman 1-20

Dog and I, and Dog's dog, Dixie, went for a day hike in Harriman State Park on Friday. My first time hiking there and it's impressive that such a large stretch of woods and trails is so close to Manhattan. It was below freezing when we started out at 9:30AM but warmed by noon into the high 50's. It was weird to be hiking in just nylon pants and a long underwear shirt in January! We ended up doing a loop of about 9 miles that included lakes and streams and southward views that revealed the NYC skyline at the end of many wooded ridges. It was a unique picture of a "city on a hill" with the various ridges hiding the greater metropolitan area from view. A highlight for Dog was a cup of espresso that I made at one of the lean-tos using one of those stove-top coffee makers. (Great the amenities you can have when you're not bringing tents, sleeping bags, etc.)

I know I'll be back many times in the months and years to come!

    Doug, you're spoiling him!

I used to hike there many moons ago and it is a gem to be able to get out in the woods so close to a metropolitan area. Glad you two had a good long hike and the weather ... I don't know if I want winter to come now or not. Maybe just go straight to spring.

Still haven't gotten to a health food store for the black bean soup.
Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass.
It's about learning to dance in the rain.
