    Finally -- a 46er!*

I'm relatively new to this forum, so please forgive my indulgence as I proudly announce that Paul Orvis and I, after 22 years, and an astounding number of boneheaded decisions that now seem mostly funny, completed our 46 on Nippletop this past Saturday. We camped at Bouquet River, and bushwhacked up the stream coming down the col between Bear Den and Dial. From there we re-visited Dial some 20 years after first summiting, and then went on to Nippletop. It was a phenomenal day for hiking...cool and sunny. Two biggest surprises were 1) how good the view from Dial is (I don't hear much about it) and 2) the fact that the champagne we carried up was still cold! (Saranac Amber and Placid IPA 46er at the Pup were our out-of-the-woods reward).

    Hmmmmm....now what?

(* Yes, we also did McNaughton)

    Congratulations.

And I agree, the view from Dial is great.
A man needs to believe in something. I believe I'll go hiking.

Congratulations, Adirondoug, and welcome to the "club" and the forum! October seems to be a good month for forum members to finish the 46. Neil and son Dom (Rocky Peak Ridge) Rivet (Sawteeth) just finished as well. What next? You could do them over (and over) again, as some do. You could do them in the winter. You could do what several are doing -- move on to the Adirondack highest hundred. Or you could do what Joanne and I decided after finishing -- no more lists.

Yes, we enjoyed Dial immensely too.

      Anyway, congratulations again!

Hey Adirondoug, nice goin'. Amongst ourselves when you hear about someone doing 46 mountains it's business as usual. Then you tell it to a non-hiker, as in: "I just finished climbing 46 mountains" and people flip out. Not only that, shareholders of Exon rub their hands together gleefully.
Now you must climb the 46 in winter, then in the fall and finally in spring. After that you move on to the fire tower peaks, then if you havn't lost all semblance of sanity you undertake (notice my choice of word) the hundred highest.
The best, the most successful adventurer, is the one having the most fun.

I did that same route (Gravestone brook) last year with my dog. It was a relatively nice bushwack.

          Congratulations on your finish.

Congrats! (responding to Dick's point, I also finished in October last year... it does seem like a hot month for 46er activity)

              Congrats!

Put some pictures up of Dial if you can - couldn't tell you what the views were like - it rained! And on Nippletop, and Skylight, Gray, Allen, Tabletop, Big Slide, Cascade,Hough, Redfield and Phelps (snowed in, actually)!

Any way - congratulations and many more great hikes to you, whichever path you choose. ron

                Ron,

Here's my pics from Dial last year. I never posted them on my photo site. Dunno why...

I have pics from the other peaks you listed on the photo journal site.

Great views from there. Sorry I missed them I guess I will just have to go back there someday and see for myself! Ron

Congratulations, TDA! If I recall from VFTT, you were less than half-way there only a few months ago. If so, you've been quite busy! Looks like it's been a good year for Capital District 46ers.
