Well, the big plan was to hike into Cedar Lakes on 8/10/05 and spend 2 or 3 nights wandering "The Loop". Due to a change of plans by family, Laurie and I only got out one night. We signed in at the trail register and headed for Cedar Lakes.
Before we got to the Pillsbury Lake trail intersection a pleasant light rain had begun, dropping the humidity (literally) and making the hiking a bit more comfortable. We weren't sure how much rain was expected and after all the great suggestions for tent sites from you folks on the forum, we decided that we weren't interested in setting up the tent in the rain, so we turned and headed to the lean-to at Pillsbury Lake. I'd never been there - it seemed like a good detour.
And it was definitely a good detour. A nice bit of trail, a great spot for a lean-to, a quiet lake, and good company later in the evening rain (Hi, Shelly and Traveller, if you're out there). All in all a lovely, if short, trip into what has become one of my favorite destinations. This was my third time in and I have yet to make it to the West Canadas. I guess I'll have to keep going back until I get it right.
** I can't wait to read Val's trip report to see if she found French Louie's cave.
