Quentin and myself wanted a quick hike (have evening plans) so I made the executive decision to hike Cascade and Porter (instead of Hurricane). He's been on 5 peaks since last year and doesn't get out much, and needed these.
Arrived at the TH at 9:30AM and hiked at a pretty aggressive pace (with only a few water stops) to the first clearing with views of Algonquin and back to Lake Placid. There we met 3 wonderful "older" hikers who shared some stories and laughs, then we all moved on. It was warm (maybe 70F) and sunny the entire trip. The trails are in fantastic shape.
Cascade's summit was our's for about 10 minutes. We snapped photos and ate lunch, then started for Porter. Trails to Porter were a little muddy at first, then just wet (but generally good). The only other time I ascended Porter was in light snow, so I had no idea it had comparable views to Cascade. Snapped lots of photos.
Back at the car at 1PM.
Congrats to Quentin on numbers 6 and 7.
