I think Allen in Winter beats everyone like a redheaded stepchild !! It sure is one heck of a climb. The time it took you guys was quite impressive. Our best time on Allen in Winter was 12 hours and our longest time was 17 hours ! This is one of the most Death March mountains in Winter there is and the Sewards come to a very close second.

Hmmmm, really Neil, I thought Allen was pretty easy, but my 11 y/o thought it was a pretty long day, so maybe it was just me.

Kidding of course, Allen is a tough one for sure. Congrats to you all. Still looking to whoop Pin Pin's 5:50 hrs????? I'm up for it, but I'm prett realistic to be happy in anything under 8

Neil and company, just checked my trip report for Allen and in early October (with some rain on the descent) it took me 10 hours. The rain may have slowed me some but not much. So, for you to do it in 12 hours with some summit time and many breaks means you were cruising on those flat stretches!

Either way congrats. I also saved Allen for late in my list (was my 44th). Glad I did, there's nothing easy about this peak!

You bet, but as we hiked and I kept surreptitiously checking my watch thinking about those 6 hours the task began to seem somewhat herculean. Nevertheless, "a man's dreams should outreach his grasp or what's a heaven for?"

One logistical problem is the weather and the training schedule. Rather than plan on peaking for one weekend it would have to be a zone extending over 2 weeks or more. Say you plan on going on June 15 but it's been raining a lot and stays wet for 2-3 weeks. Finally its been hot and dry for 5 or 6 days and you're ready to go. That means you have to try and maintain that fitness level (race ready) without getting injured for several weeks.

                What Mountain????

from your pictures, you asked this in one picture.........

Said Mountain is Algonquin (in far background) between the saddle between Redfield summit (Right) and a lesser sub-peak SW of Redfield.

Great Photos, looks like a ball.

I want to know why pictures never show how steep it feels as when you were on it. That slide seemed very steep up and down, yet looks flat in the pics. I can't wait to get out again. Hopefully next week.

Or the true beauty that we're fortunate to see.

50% of the mountains named are correct.

Topo! software says 60% grade. What is that in degrees?
I would have had to have been (is that good grammar?) shooting across the slide not upwards. Then it would look steep. Especially if I tilted the camera.

I have the same question about picture angles. Joanne took a picture of me coming down Basin and it looks like I'm climbing an almost perfectly horizontal stretch. Yet I've seen pics that almost make you sweat looking at the angle. Do any photo gurus here have the answer?

Colden. First quess was simply by direction only, without the aid of a map. As I look closer it looks like from the angle (below and west of the summit) that it would have to be Colden I suppose.
