    Macomb Mountain

I was wondering what people thought about hiking up Macomb via Elk Lake and then possibly skiing down its slide in the winter. Has anyone done this or known people who have done it?

In my humble opinion I think of myself as an expert skier, I've skied Whiteface's slides, double blacks are no problem for me, but for some reason when I climbed Macomb its slide seemed to be overall a bit steeper than most, or am I wrong? I've climbed up Colden's main slide.

Thanks for all of your responses.

Well there are a bunch of slides on both Macomb and Colden, so it's hard to tell what you are comparing to what.

I have skied Colden (1990 Lake Arnold slide), but I have not skied anywhere on Macomb. I'm sure folks have though; just about anything that can be skied has been.

How skiable something is depends on the conditions. Most of Macomb's slides face west (afternoon sun may hurt late season conditions); some are covered with big piles of rubble that would need good cover.

I say try it, as long as you are careful of avalanche safety. you might ask for opinions in The Mountaineer, also.
