Sharp's Bridge Summary

Went up to Sharp's Bridge w/Jason B. today.
We climbed every route in the book except the 5.3, which looks a bit too chossy.
Monkey, Day-Tripper, Not Tell Wife, OK?, and Sharp's Bridge Route (go left at the top to avoid the scary choss on the ledge) are all good routes. The 5.4 is OK but has a huge loose death block at the top; the only way to avoid it is an ugly claw through a bush.
Easy approach. Nice, short cliff. Decent TR potential.

any pictures? we always camp at sharp bridge and ever since we picked up the new guidebook, we've been looking forward to checking it out... if it ever stops raining on the weekends

Hey, I'm glad you enjoyed the little cliff. Like any newly developed cliff, it has some choss. And I think this one is destined to stay chossy for a while. Like a tiny version of the Pitchoff Chimney Cliff, the Sharp Bridge cliff is gradually being pushed over. That's why it has so many cracks.

On newer cliffs like this, I set my belayer up well out of the firing line.

That lower pic is Monkey; Day Tripper goes on the arete to the left. We took a stab at heading out left of the tree, but the rock is too dirty and the climbing too hard for us.
Rumble Strips was one of the best routes there; consistently challenging 5.6-7 moves. It was a bit wet at the bottom. Sharps Bridge gets my vote for best climb there, though we opted to head left up the sharp, small corner rather than climb through the frightfully loose crud at the top. That makes it a very enjoyable climb.

Thanks for the info. I went straight up on Sharp Bridge because I thought it was more aesthetic, but it definitely is a scary pile of blocks at the top. The route is just as good going up the small corner. I've pulled on the blocks a couple times and not pulled any loose, but they are scary. The only one I would really stay away from is the top block in the pile that's in the tiny chimney.

Rumble Strips was a surprise! When I first looked at it, I thought it would be a grubby, second rate line, but it turned out to be interesting and fun. You never know until you climb it.

I agree. Nice article, captures it very well!

(On my recent visit, I tried to get the wobbling "death missile" on Monkey out of it's "holster", but I could not. I think for it to come out, it would have to be lifted straight up a foot or two, and it's way too heavy for me to do that.)
