    Square Mile of Hope

The Square Mile of Hope event on Fourth Lake was today and I was there. WOW. It was quite an event. If I am not mistaken the record was broken with 1104 boats on the water in one raft. The old record was 776 I guess. They crushed the old record! It was quite an experience. The weather was great and it seemed like the whole thing went off well. My hat is off to Connie Perry and the rest of the Square Mile crew. Well done. The event was a benefit for breast cancer. I hope they raised a lot of money. I think they did. It was great to see so many paddlers in one place at one time. Paddle sports is growing and it is not hard to see why. An initial investment(boat,PFD,paddle etc) and paddlers then have the whole Adirondack Park to paddle in for years. For free. Hard to beat even in a time when the price of everything is going up. That is the beauty of the forest preserve. Free recreation. Again hats off to the Square Mile of Hope crew and see you out on the water.
We're not out here to rough it, we're out here to smooth it. Things are rough enough in town.

Sounds like a fun event. I hope they raised some good money. That was to benefit the Susan Komen breast cancer group, right?

That must have been an amazing sight. Does anyone have a picture of all those boats on the water? It'd be quite a sight from the air too, I bet.

In the haunted house of my life, paddling is the only stair that doesn't creak.

He found himself wondering at times, especially in the autumn, about the wild lands, and strange visions of mountains that he had never seen came into his dreams.
