    fall canoe trip

Wife and I are planning a canoe trip in late Sep or early Oct. Want to be out five days, maybe longer, if the coffee holds out. Looking for primarily flat water, with some hiking along the way. We are thinking St. Regis Canoe Area, but my concern is might be crowded there. We don't want to deal with people, want as much solitude as possible.
So, can anybody give us some clue about the crowds in St. Regis around that time? Any suggestions on other places to go that don't have much usage and no motors allowed.

We have spent several labor Day weekends in SRCWA. There were NO VACANCY signs at Rollins and Fish Creek campgrounds and yet on St Regis Pond, we saw 6 other people all weekend.
Another time on Fish Pond, both lean to sites were taken, but we had our pick of other sites and more than enough quiet and privacy to go around. We would see an occasional day tripper passing through, but that's about all.
Sure, the weekend can be busy, but you should have no problem to find an agreeable site. At that time of year, SRCWA will likely be less occupied than many of the other spots that have easier access (Lows, LTL,Long Pond).

By early October, I don’t think crowds will be an issue in the SRCA . September weekends can still produce relative crowds - I paddled into Lake Lila last fall on a Friday afternoon and got the last site on the whole lake . But the portaging involved to get back to a Fish Pond should screen out a fair amount of people - or limit it to day trippers, which is what I encountered when I spent two nights at the northern lean to on Fish.

Weekdays during that time frame will be wide open . Two years ago I paddled into Lowes on a late September Monday and had the place to myself for three days .

Sounds good, St Regis it will be. This is our 25th aniversary, and this is what she wants to do, not interested in diamonds or fakey Caribean cruises, I think she's a keeper.
