Everything is a bit low right now. The Sacandaga at Hadley is class II/III and is dam released. I'm not sure about the Battenkill other than that it is contaminated with Didymo. If you go there be sure to thoroughly clean your gear. With some rain the Schroon River could come up. The Hudson from Warrensberg to Lake Luzerne... check with Beaver Brook Outfitters.sigpic -
In that case: The Sacandaga from Wells to Hope. Next step up would be from Whitehouse to Wells Campground on the West Branch Sac.
The Hudson River as I mentioned above plus from The Glen (rt 28) to Snake Rock. The next step up would be from NorthRiver to Riparius and the next step above that would be Riparius to the Glen. The Schroon River. West Canada Creek over by Poland down to Middleville. East Canada creek from Stratford south. West Canada creek below Ohio Gorge. South Branch of West canada creek at lower water. Middle Branch of the Moose, Staircase section of the Bouquet...
Pick up: NY The Whitewater State by Dennis Squires Vol I & II.sigpicComment

The Salmon is alot of fun but check about releases. I think, its been 25 years, from Altmar down to the Black Hole in Pulaski is pretty nice for closed canoes and kayaks,I'd be real careful of an open canoe on some sections of that river.Do they still have the Firemans Chicken roast and river float parade on the Salmon?Be careful, don't spread invasive species!!

Salmon River
Altmar to rt 2a (trash compactor/transfer station) is easy beginner whitewater at most runnable levels, Just keep your open boat right side up. From 2a to the Black hole is some of my favorite Boogy Water. There are lots of great surfing waves, and I love "Titanic" , a very save fun hole.
(beginners at whitewater should have good moving water experience.)
I have no idea about a chix BBQ, save that I did get some chix there after a paddle.Comment

you can try mountainman in old forge or http://www.northernoutfitters.net/ in Utica or BeaverBrook in weavertown. Also you may be able to order direct from whitewateroutlaw.com
Dennis died in a kayaking accident in New Zealand this past January. If you can not find his book PM me and I will see what I can find. Dennis self published his books and was the driving force. They are not just guide books but a glimpse into the life of an adirondack explorer.sigpicComment
