Canoe repair

Hello all... new to the board and the ADK outdoor scene. Me and my girlfriend just recieved an old canoe from family to use up here. We have found a couple "soft" spots on the canoe ( I wouldnt say holes or cuts) and were wondering if any of you experienced individuals could help us with finding a way of fixing the canoe.

We have a metal canoe... we plan on repainting the canoe so dont worry about stripping paint or anything like that!
