    Dam release??

Last year I saw a story on WPTZ about a dam release that was a major whitewater kayaking event somewhere in this area.

I can't find any info on it, esp since I have no clue when or where it was.

Does it ring any bells for anyone?

    Thanks,

I'm sure Mike (Riosacandaga) will post the info.

They have periodic releases of the Sacandaga res dam for Whitewater in the Hudson

Moshier Falls on the Beaver River, maybe? There's a dam release only one day a year, and from what I understand it gets quite a lot of paddlers (and spectators) to the area.

As Redhawk said, Rio should be able to tell you more. Here's one of his posts last year when he was there: http://www.adkforum.com/showthread.php?t=4851

Sounds like the release(s) from the Abanakee dam.
The event... the Hudson River Whitewater Derby.

Could be the Beaver River release... ?

Maybe even the autumn release for the Moose(fest)... ?

The Indian River release is for commercial rafting on the Hudson Gorge...summer schedule S-T-H-S and the times vary usually 10 to 11AM.
The Sacandaga (Hadley) releases all summer, here is a link: http://www.h2oline.com/365122.asp
The Black River releases throughout the summer as well. There is commercial rafting and whitewater rodeo events and the Black River Fest (already past).
There are releases on the Salmon up in Pulaski... don't know the schedule.
The Moose Fest is Oct. 12th weekend... much of this is natural flow, but the draw down of the Fulton Chain into the Middle Moose adds some kick.
The Beaver Releases start Labor day weekend. There is only one day, Sunday I think, that the Moshier section runs. Otherwise its Taylorville and Eagle sections.
The Raquette river has releases up in Colton. But no major event unless your're following the water.

I don't do whitewater, but this may help, with a release schedule link here. I know there are major releases on the Moose River and Beaver River (western 'dacks), and big events on the Black River near Watertown.

Thanks guys. This release would have been relatively near Plattsburgh, NY. I'll check out the info provided.
