    ADK Paddler's map advice

I'm looking at getting 1 or more ADK Paddler's maps for the northern half of the ADK.

The North map and both the Raquette River and Whitney Wilderness maps are all 1:40,000, while the "close up" maps for Saranac and St Regis are 1:31,250.

Are the Raquette and Whitney maps more detailed, even though they are the same scale as the North? Do they have more info on carries, campsites, launches, etc?
They offer a bit more coverage for areas like Raquette to Long lake, and the Bog river compared to the North map, but are also 8 years older.
Essentially I am torn between spending $22 on the newer North map, or $30 on the Raquette/Whitney/St Regis maps that are older, but offer more coverage and more detail (in the St Regis at least).

The price differences aren't a big factor, I'm more indecisive over the age vs detail/coverage decision. Is that 8 year publication difference a big deal? (The new North is published 2025, where the others are 2017/2017/2021)

The only reason I picked up the newer maps was for updated campsites. I had considered just using the DEC Infolocator to update my maps with a sharpie. I use the paddlers map in conjunction with a printed USGS for extra detail. I can take a photo of a portion of the 13th edition paddlers (north) if you want to see the detail/coverage of a specific spot.

Its funny you mention the DEC Infolocator and campsite numbers, because i was using that to mark a map of the raquette river (from the DEC site for the saranac lake wild forest) with campsite numbers, and have since found out that those site numbers are all wrong. From Crusher to Axton, Infolocator numbers them as 2-16, where the paddlers map labels them from 24 to 12.
I was watching an ADKAddicts video yesterday and they mentioned staying at # 18 and i couldn't find an 18 on infolocator. They gave me the paddlers map number range, which matched when they were there 3 years ago and again last year.
This is what spurred my current interest in finally getting some proper maps for this coming season. I have the ADK western trails book/map and a couple printed USGS quads, but often everywhere i want to go is at the corner of three or four quads.
I figure its time to get the proper paddling maps.

My copy of the North map is maybe 3 years old now, so I don't know how different the new one may be. I like the big map for planning a trip from home, but I use the Raquette River and Whitney Wilderness maps on trips because they are so much smaller and easier to unfold to the part I want to see at any particular time. I don't have the St Regis or Saranac Lakes maps, but will look for them next time I am at the Mercantile in Saranac Lake. I've also got older National Geographic maps for the whole park, but they don't show campsites other than lean-tos, so they are not as handy.

Have you had any issues with your Raquette or Whitney maps being "out of date"?
          Notice any changes since 2017?

I can't remember any issues now that I've experienced while using the maps, and they are certainly very helpful in general. I have seen errors in the National Geographic maps, most memorably about whether there was or had ever been a trail to Upper Sister Lake, and the location of the outlet of Mitchell Ponds.

I went ahead and ordered the St Regis and Whitney maps. These cover most of the areas I am interested in for the time being (Five ponds, Floodwood, Stony Creek to Tupper Lake, Lila).

I can add maps as i go, but these two should keep me busy with possible trips for quite a while.
