I am making a Quick trip from PA with my brother (who is new to canoe camping) next month. Is there a wilderness pond we could visit for a couple of days that has somewhat of a "wilderness" character?

Are you familiar with the DEC info locator? You can set up filters to show trails, campsites and canoe put-in/take-out spots all over the entirety of New York, not just the ADK Park.
It is pretty much invaluable for trying to find an out of the way spot to camp, short of being directly told where to go.--------------------------------------------------------------
