If you're in the Adirondacks check out paddlefest. If you're coming up this way also check out Northern Outfitters in Utica they have a bunch of touring boats plus they are stored indoors.
In Florida check out Sweetwater Kayaks.

      Alistair (or anyone else),

I have a Necky Kyook that I don't use much anymore after getting my Lost Pond Boat. The Kyook is a 15' boat, this one has no bulkheads and no rudder, but it would come with bow and stern bags for flotation plus a cockpit cover and spray skirt. I'm just outside of Burlington, VT but I could meet somewhere in the Eastern Adirondacks, preferably Putnam Pond, if you want to take a test paddle. But be forewarned it is not a touting kayak!

Not sure what you mean by cheap. Oak Orchard Canoe in Rochester is selling off 2005 models for $100 - $150 off list. Just picked up a Current Designs Kestrel 120 HV for $599 and an Old Town Dirigo 120 for $649. They also have used boats. Check Oak Orchard

            Alistar,

I used the Kyook as a day touring boat probably 95% of the time. It's big, so it wouldn't be as easy to cartop as a 12' boat but it is also faster and roomier than a smaller boat. Check the for sale ads in your local paper.

Not sure what you mean by day touring kayak. Ordinarily recreational kayaks are 9 - 14 ft, day touring 14-16ft and touring are longer than that. You may mean that you are looking for a recreational kayak...
What length boat are you looking for?

Perception (carolina 14.5) with rudder. Has bouyancy chambers fore and aft and plenty cockpit room for fishing. Wilderness kayaks www.ems.com has nice open (light touring) kayaks perfect for fishing too.
