What kind of boat do you have?

I have a Adirondack Wenonah canoe. Its weighs 54 pounds and treads water perfectly. I have taken my canoe down white water and it also handles the rocks and bumps very well. I highly recomend this canoe to anyone who is interested in picking up the sport of padding

I have a 10 1/2 foot Kevlar Hornbeck. It is set up with the trolling rig and oars. I have yet to buy a paddle, but I hope to this year. I bought it for fishing purposes, and obviously because of the light portage.

      I have 2:

--A 18 ft Wenowah Sundowner. Its kevlar and weighs about 85lbs. Its been exposed for several years and has a crack in the clear coat yet dowsn't leak. It also has a small bend in it. Surprisingly it still paddles well. I am able to paddle it alone fully loaded with gear quite effortlessly. I have a harder time paddling it empty because the wind takes it if the front is not weighed down. I prefer to paddle it solo and if out with someone else will often tell them to stop paddling. Feeling that other person moving around up there has always made me a bit nervous. I rarely paddle this anymore

--A 17ft Wilderness Systems Epic Kayak. I absolutely love this yak. It tracks straight in windy, choppy water yet turns easily. It has tons of storage space...I usually have room left over. The best thing is it was a steal. It was a rental boat that never got rented. I got it for half price.

        I've got 1 1/2...

One's a 10.5' Hornbeck, the other I co-own witha buddy of mine, and it's a 12' 32 lb kevlar hull, Ash framed handmade by Joe Di'marco from Mechanicville.

I got a 10.5 hornbeck, a 9 foot kayak and a 250 foot, 1000 pound war canoe (at least it seems the big!)

            Hey Ken999,

I saw some of Joe Di`Marco`s work and he is excellant.Hows your canoe holding up?I know another guy who bought one and loves it.I bought homemade tip-ups from Joe and they are so beautifully constructed and painted and machined I hate to use them.I`m still using my old stanbys. He`s an excellant custom builder. And I wonder how he`s doing I have`nt been over to see him in a few years.Did you see his brookies on the wall?

I own a 14` foot Raddisson.I hand made folding backrests for the cane seats out of oak.Agreat back relief after a few hours of fishing.I`d like to look into a Hornbeck someday .

WB- The canoe is holding up fine...we've had it almost 12 years. It has got 5 or 6 patches on it, but still fishes well. I have not stopped by to see him lately either. I think the last time I was over that way was almost two years ago.

You are only the second guy I have talked to that knew anything about him. The first was a Ranger I talked to in Sargents three years ago, he had one as well.

The co-owner of our boat picked up 12' Raddison a couple of years back, so we mostly use that now to give the "red boat" a little bit of a break.

Yeah..I've seen his Brookies and the twinkle in his eye when he tells the stories. He's a great guy.

I'm the captain of the battleship, S.S. Ordin. She's beast at 16'9" and 86lbs. Her original fabrication was at the Old Town shipyards.

It's doubtful that she's as tough as the U.S.S. Iowa, but she's a far sight tougher than the Bismark was.

Her weight makes her a bit tough to portage, but over flat ground it can be done with a cart. This year I have to get a new cart as last year she turned the old one into bent scrap getting in and out of Mountain Pond in the St. Regis.

One of these fine days I'd love to end up piloting a nice little fast attack craft, something of the Hornbeck class perhaps.

                        Lumberzac,
I`m in the same boat as you(literally) How do you like it? and how old is it?
Also, I`m going to have a tough time getting it up the northway this year.
You see,I just bought a new Dodge Dakota Quad Cab and the bed is even shorter than my last Dakota at.(5`6")I don`t have a cap for it yet and it won`t happen this year.
Anybody have any suggestions?I used to just lay the 14` Raddi in the bed and ty it in.
I think about 7 ` will be hanging out on the new truck.
Man,wished I thought of this before I signed.
Suppose I could go with a belly boat, but I`ll miss the ol` 15 year old clunker.Alot of good times and memories in that boat.Any suggestions will be appreciated here.Help!!!!

                          Truck Problem

                          WB

I have a similar problem with my Ranger, Got A Bigger Yak this past Fall 14-6
and it did not want to ride as well as the 12 and 9 ft boats just in the back..

Well for $5 - 6 bucks I made a 2x3 support that is even with the roof of the front cab......The inside of your truck tail gate will have rows of screws, build a temp frame and bolt it to the inside to stand up works great!!!
Looks like this the bottom and middle braces are Key!! and need to pick up all the tail gate screws you can (I had to get longer screws)

                          !______!

                            Thanks Wbwells,

question: How do you attach the end of the canoe to the top of the cab?Do you use (2) regular canoe foam blocks and ratchet straps? And at the other end (at the tailgate)you made a "H" frame out of 2x3`s? Maybe even I can build this. Thanks again.

I've had my canoe for about 12 years and the hull is pretty banged up, but I've never had a leak (knock on wood). When I had my old truck, a GMC Sierra, regular cab, I used a Tonneau cover on the bed, so I used one of those canoe carry kits with the foam blocks because the canoe wouldn’t fit under the cover. The setup looked ridiculous, a 14’ canoe strapped to a cab that was only about 3’ wide, but I never had any problems with the canoe moving around on me. I just had to make sure the straps were tight.
