    Finally...

I finally broke the drought for da trouts!!

Either it seems to be a tougher year than usual ,or I`m losing my old touch or the rivers I fish are not what they were... anyway, heres the first trout of the `08 season for me.

Nice bow WB! Is that a Stonefly? I was wondering if you had any luck yet but then remembered you saying you were gonna be without a puter.

Ive havent had a lot of luck this season either but havent been able to get out as much as normal. Hoping to get out this weekend.

        Thanks Adkh and TH...

Yeah, the computer Dr. Geek fixed our comp. ,now we`re back up and runnin`!! Hope to get out sometime myself this busy weekend...The bad news is...I`m scheduled for an Achilles Tendon surgery on June 9th,that I semi-tore back in Oct...I tried healing it up myself...hoping to avoid surgery...but, my job requires alot of walking and just getting through the workweek was tough at times...so, I hope to pound the rivers the next few weeks I have left...this damn tendon has kept me from all strenuous adk. hunting, hiking, snowshoeing and icefishing..it was kinda depressing reading about everybodies adk. hunting and hiking stories, knowing that I could`nt chance going up there and fully rupturing it a few miles in.. but, I did manage to fill my doe permit for some fresh venison through the winter and the barbi-grill!! and...I just hope the surgery goes well and I get back to the outdoor things that keeps me alive!!!

Oh, BTW, TH, that bow slammed my Prince nymph dropper fly...

Talk later, I`ll be around alot in the future, especially being gisabled and out of work for 6-8 weeks..

        Yours,

        Wb

Good luck with the heel WB. My bro-in-law had the same surgery. Fully recovered. Maybe we'll have to arrange a roadtrip for you while you're laid up.

I honsetly don`t know how I made it this long trying to stay out of the real woods...when I go flyfishing its nothing like the jaunts my brother and I are use to...I have to make sure theres no inclines or big boulders and such...really sucks...but, hopefully, like your brother-in-law,Adkh...I`ll recover well and re-acquaint myself with the ole` Adk`s and deeper woods again real soon.. Thanks again..I`ll keep you guys filled in on how it goes...

                Very nice brother.

I have hooked a few, but not landed one. One was a very large girl, she was feisty and uncooperative.

I also hope your surgery goes well. Other than your Achilles, we aren't doing too badly physically, so hope we have a few more years to roam the streams.

Here's your sister-in-law fighting more blackflies than trout on Sunday. It was good to be in the woods.

I recognise that boulder she is perched on ...theres usually a trout hanging in the good-looking eddy directly across from where shes standing...but, if I remember correctly...it takes a long , accurate cast w/ a few big mends to get the fly down to it...thats too bad...you guys did`nt get into more brookies up there...but, at least you got into Gods country, so it could`nt have been too bad of an outing...

Thanks Drifter...hang in there...they`re still maybe alittle slow in moving for food thus far...the water temp. at the river I was tossing my flies was barely 50F...next week ,they should wake up and attack the flies better.. At least we hope ,anyway.... Fill me in w/ your reports.

Don't feel bad about your slow start. Everyone has slumps now and again.

I spent yesterday on the Delaware. Poured rain all day.

Spent 2 hours nymphing a riffle. Finally got a strike, indicator went straight down, had the fish on for about 2.5 seconds, and lost him.

A little while later, it really started to rain, hard, coming down sideways. I retreated to sit under a big oak tree and eat my lunch (and rejoice in the thermos of coffee I brought with me).

The rain started to taper off, then stopped. The sun came out, and no kidding, I saw the most beautiful rainbow I've ever seen. (the real thing, not the fish).

As if on cue, the caddis started to come off...the Brachycentrus hatch that can be very heavy on the Upper Delaware. Caddis are hopping and fluttering on the surface. I hiked up to the head of a long pool, now with frequent and enthusiastic fish rising to the emerging caddis. Got into position, tied on an Elk Hair Caddis with a Lafontaine dropper, made a few false casts, found my target........

And it starts to pour again. All rises stop. Caddis disappear. Total sunshine was about 10 minutes.

                              Thanks Kilgore!!

Glad you`re persistance in the rain paid off...

Hopefully, because of this cool spell, the fishing will continue alittle further into the summer before the dog days settle in...but, I probably won`t be throwing a flyline until August sometime...at least the trouts will be spared from my death grip.. But, I wish you guys luck just the same...just be sure and drop off some reports of your trips on the water...as I always say, its the next best thing to being there, I guess
