    Moose River

I plan on fishing The Moose River around Old Forge next week. Never thought much of this stretch....seems like a rock bass factory. Any thoughts?

Theres Brooktrout in there some Rainbows and Smallies but its very spotty. You need to know where to go or spend some time exploring.

I've never fished it, but it looks like beautiful water. Good luck!!

When the water warms up, they stack up at the springs.
Kinda like they used to, in the 1800's,
        but not quite.

        Acid Rain kills Eggs.
No amount of stocking will change that.

The fishing is always better, shortly after the glaciers receed.

            Moose

I'm thinking that area also this summer. I heard the smallies are fun. Anyone camp the river and is it canoeable east of 28 somewhere?

            Thanks,

I've canoed from the Rondaxe rd down to Thendara. Very pretty. Many Meanders. I never tried, but I spoke to some locals who told me to let a line drift behind the canoe with a wooly bugger for trout. Check in the fishing shop on the 2nd floor of Old Forge Hardware, or the hunting/fishing guide place on the north side of rt 28 in old forge. Nice people in there. If the river doesn't work for you, try old forge pond for pike, pickerel, and ooooooh Tiger Musky.

Best to go to McKeever Loon-E. Not much in the river where you are talking about.

I beg to differ.Check out this thread. My husband caught this in the Old Forge area and many more too. Mckeever is good too but there is good fishing on the Moose near Old Forge.
