Yes, this is something I've long awaited, it will potentially introduce a whole cast of new characters to the equation.

As it stands now you basically have to blow through a tube to get a crossbow permit for being disabled.

If this proposal would place crossguns in the hands of those that are TRULY disabled, then I'm 100% for it. Unfortunately we both know the majority of applicants will be very able-bodied.

What will define "disabled" in regards to getting a crossgun permit? Paper cuts? Bad hair days? Chronic halitosis?

We have to see if they come up with a new definition of disabled.

I would imagine you would have to be designated as handicapped, as in having those stickers for special parking. I don't own a crossbow,[never heard it called a crossgun before], nor would I, but if instituted properly for the disabled, why not!

I think the most important part is getting the youth involved at a younger age , hopefully before they get exposed to too much animal hugging extreamists views. Teaching children about responsible , ethical , hunting and trapping , and game management is one of the best things we can do for the future generations

Arguing as to "is this or that type of weapon is suitable for cleanly harvesting game " only serves to divide sportsmen .
IMHO we , as sportsmen and women , should do everything we can to stay united , not devisive.

Highly doubtful but it depends on what handicapped is defined as with the new regs. Now you need doctor certification I believe and be quadraplegic litteraly blowing through a tube to fire the weapon.

On your first point, we simply could not agree more. The youth is the future. It's easy to disregard cranky old men like ourselves. Recruitment of new, youthful sportsmen that will be proponents for hunting right will ensure that us cranky old geezers can hunt until we're pushing daisies.

On the second point. Can't go along with you here. Sorry. There are aspects of hunting that I cannot support simply because some other hunter wishes to employ them. Crossguns for the able-bodied in the archery season is one of those issues for me.

I don't personally like crossbows either, I'm a recurve man, but how about a special season say a week before bow for the truly disabled with a crossbow? Just a thought, they may have the same hunting urge we do!

How about allowing crossbows for all, durring rifle / shotgun season ?
                            But,
Why allow compound bows durring regular archery ?
Saboted muzzelloaders / shotgun slugs ? they change the effective range and odds too.
                            Scopes on anything ?
Where does it stop ? You can only kill a deer with a rock , or a 6" knife or else you are not a "real" hunter ?

I never will understand the anti crossbow sentiment out there. A crossbow is simply another tool for harvesting game. Why not a separate season for them? How about allowing there use during gun season? As far as I'm concerned its another way to be out in the woods deer hunting and thats what is important to me.
