Mostly benign proposals, except for the crossbow bill... Everybody and their brother will suddenly become "disabled" and apply for a crossgun permit.
I guess I have to start writing some letters addressed to Albany.

It sounds to me as if they're trying to get young people interested at an early age in hunting and such, I think that would be a good thing!Comment

If this proposal would place crossguns in the hands of those that are TRULY disabled, then I'm 100% for it. Unfortunately we both know the majority of applicants will be very able-bodied.
What will define "disabled" in regards to getting a crossgun permit? Paper cuts? Bad hair days? Chronic halitosis?

I think the most important part is getting the youth involved at a younger age , hopefully before they get exposed to too much animal hugging extreamists views. Teaching children about responsible , ethical , hunting and trapping , and game management is one of the best things we can do for the future generations
Arguing as to "is this or that type of weapon is suitable for cleanly harvesting game " only serves to divide sportsmen .
IMHO we , as sportsmen and women , should do everything we can to stay united , not devisive.Phil

Highly doubtful but it depends on what handicapped is defined as with the new regs. Now you need doctor certification I believe and be quadraplegic litteraly blowing through a tube to fire the weapon.Comment

On the second point. Can't go along with you here. Sorry. There are aspects of hunting that I cannot support simply because some other hunter wishes to employ them. Crossguns for the able-bodied in the archery season is one of those issues for me.

How about allowing crossbows for all, durring rifle / shotgun season ?
But,
Why allow compound bows durring regular archery ?
Saboted muzzelloaders / shotgun slugs ? they change the effective range and odds too.
Scopes on anything ?
Where does it stop ? You can only kill a deer with a rock , or a 6" knife or else you are not a "real" hunter ?Phil

I never will understand the anti crossbow sentiment out there. A crossbow is simply another tool for harvesting game. Why not a separate season for them? How about allowing there use during gun season? As far as I'm concerned its another way to be out in the woods deer hunting and thats what is important to me.
