Yeah, I know, but the stream that I'm going get them from opens on April Fools Day

Not if you're willing to drill through the ice.
How is it that you are heading west? Well, we face north and then really sudden like turn left.

I`d hate to dampen your spirit St.Regis ,but,I don`t know about other flyguys...but, in my favorite area... we don`t catch much until the middle of May or later ...depending on the river level and of course water temps...then again...if you do connect and hit a few fish... the ones that do hit your offering most often are the biggest ones of the season...good luck to you all this season...!!!

Ditto that, I haven't fished an opening day in years no matter how bad I'm chomping to get out there. All that high water, not for me.

WB and ADK - You aren't dampening my spirits in the least Anticipation is one of the best parts of the deal. Spring will come, just like it always does...and I'll be ready

Got some little, headwater brookie streams that throw plenty of fish early in the season. There will still be lots of snow in the woods - maybe enough to wear snowshoes - perfect for keeping others away and for chilling my catch of 6 to 8" gems A frying pan won't be the last item on my list of stuff to bring.

The big ones will be waiting for me in May

Love that positive thinking. Maybe some will rub off on me.

I`m sorry, I underestimated the perserverance of some of these fly people...there are trout to be taken ,even in the cold and high water, one just has to know where those areas are...I`ve always said that there are some rivers that are early productive rivers and some that are`nt(the same applying to Adk. ponds)...unfortunately my local rivers don`t wake up til the middle to end of May ...but,brookies(the Adk Gem of Trout) can be taken in icy cold water..they are actually a char and don`t mind those freezing temps. too much...

SR, I really like the way you harvest a few gems for the frying pan...the flavor of a freshly caught brookie fried over an open fire is one that cannot be matched.. The trouble is if you`re just hiking /flyfishing for the day, its tough to put the flyrod down and start a fire and all, takes away alot of fishing time...but,John Geirach and his pals like to take a break on a chilly day and start a twig fire ,brewing up their favorite beverage, coffee, inwhich I think they drink alot of...Hey AdkH. I think we need to have SR divulge just one of his headwater secret places... He can even blindfold us if he wants....I know of only one area that might produce early brookies to the fly...but, a friend of mine went there too early one April and got skunked, he went back a few weeks later and slammed them... So, the my same laws of troutwaters still apply with brookies in certain northern waters...but, it is still nice to get out and limber up the flyrod arm...get the kinks out and check waders for leaks You`ll know pretty quick in the icy bathwater.. But, the bottomline ,like St.Regis did say thats very true is...spring is on its way and it is exciting looking forward to throwing those flies we`ve been tying all winter! Tightlines this year fellow feather tossers!!!!...

                      All Fools Day!

I can't wait! My gear has been sorted and tuned so much that I'm afraid I'll wear it out before the season starts!

I can't wait for dem trouts either, but I'm not quite through with my winter fun just yet.
                            Let it snow!

I know it's not the same, but don't you guys icefish?
Walleyes and salmon and perch and crappies taste pretty good cooked over a fire.
I'll take brookies over all of them though.
