My fishing partner and I were having a discussion last week about which wind direction was best for Adirondack fishing. We concluded that west was generally best and east was the kiss of death. Anybody have any opinions??
To me,I always liked a southern or southwestern breeze.Breeze that is.I never will or did like a wind strong enough to mess up casting or canoeing. Also, wind from the East, I like the least. This is an interesting topic.Keep it going for awhile.I like reading the threads and maybe helping me stay on the water longer than before.

MY daughter and I were trolling for rainbows last late summer in an Adirondack pond.We were there at sunup. The pond was as glassy as can be.No hits.I kept telling my daughter hang in there as soon as a chop ripples the surface we`ll start getting a few takes. After three hours a breeze from the west started and my self-tied black, peacock herl, woolly bugger made the rod slam down.We netted two 16-17" fat rainbows in an hour.Boy,was she tickled. So,sometimes a breeze might be needed to stir them up and make them less spooky.A glassy surface is like a pane of glass, they probably can see everything well, including any shadows in the shape of a canoe.Only a theory.Creekwader is also right, there have been times in stillness that I have caught brookies.I guess thats why we call it fishing and not catching. Its great to be on a glassy ,calm body of water at sunrise or sunset with the rugged mtns around you.Its not always about catching fish.

"When the wind's in the East, the fishes bite the least.
When the wind's in the West, the fishes bite the best.
When the wind's in the North, the fishes do come forth.
When the wind's in the South, it blows the bait from the fish's mouth."

Ahh, the old 'Landlock chop' as my friends in Maine would call it. I won't troll streamers without it. Why does it work? I don't know but one theory I've heard is that the wave action diffracts light down onto the streamer, giving the impression of something swimming. Without the chop, the streamer just doesn't have the right look.
Now that seems to make alot of sense."The chop" always causes some action to occur. Thanks Creekwader.
