    Bass Lake

Wildbrookies, I know you mentioned Bass Lake in one of your other posts. Did you have any luck fishing there this season? I hiked in there a couple of times, but it was before i bought my Hornbeck, so I couldn't fish. I'm not sure if there is more than one Bass Lake, but I am talking about the one in North Hudson. Also, has anyone tried Howard and Munson Ponds in the North Hudson area?

    Gray Ghost,
I fished Bass Lake only from shore about 5-6 years ago.Theres a nice rocky shoreline as soon as the trail comes to the lake. But,there are two trails in.This trail is the same one that heads towards Moose Mountain Pond.We did quite well on 10-12" brookies and had on some better fish that came off after good runs.I did return there later that season in the fall and trout were rising all over but could`nt match the hatch.I put on a elk hair caddis and had a huge fish rise towards it and roll, refusing the offer.I got a close look at a big rainbow near 18-20".Watch out for the Northern Water snakes that inhabit the rocky shoreline. They won`t bite ,but they try to intimidate you. They are quite large.I enjoyed that place and the hike in is nice.I only fished it from shore.A hornbeck would be great there.Like I said, there where rises all over the lake that were definitely trout rises. So,getting out from shore will help success. As for those other Ponds ,I have only heard alittle about them.I didhear Moose Mt. is nice and might be worth a try. But,it is farther.Well, talk to you later.

"Get your mind off trout,if you can.I know they`ve got you.I can see it. Every fraternity of sufferers knows its brothers.Trout hook men;men don`t hook trout.Better try and throw the hook while you can.By the time you`re a grown man there probably won`t be a pure trout healthy enough to fiddle with"...
