    Brown Down!!!

Well I was debating if I should go rifle hunting in the northern zone out on state land, or bow hunting in the southern zone on my private land.....hummmm....I decided to hit up my private land with my bow.

I waltzed in the woods around 3:30pm and set up in a thicket where I know plenty of deer hang out when its hot like this. Sure enough, a deer came walking in down-wind of my ground blind. BUSTED! It was a doe and she knew I was in there without even seeing me. Oh well....keep hunting.

About 30 min later, an hour before dark, I heard footsteps behind me in the same place. This time...I got ready. I turned around and got ready for the shot. All I could see was the deers legs in the thick brush.....I drew the bow. I held full draw for about 30 sec until he walked into a good shooting lane.....10 yard shot right in the kill zone! I watched where he took off and got ready for the track. Turns out it did'nt go far at all, maybe 150 yards. Nice size deer, tinly little spike horns. Actually, when I shot, I did'nt even see them....I thought I was shooting a doe! Just glad to break the ice for this season.

Ps. Is the adksportsman site down???

Nice job! I opted for the northern zone, wrong choice! Way too hot, nothing was moving, including me...... At least the beer was cold.

Not sure, but I think ADK Forum poster (1894) is the site administrator for that website.

          Nice shootin' Alex.
I don't have any idea what is up at adksportsman, it's a shame , it was just starting to get some momentum and had a good group of people.
Good luck the rest of the season.

Congrats You bowhunters amaze me, 10 yards! A friend of mine got one opening day of bow in the northern zone at 2-3 yards. It was at the base of the tree his stand was in!

Allright Alex!!, yeah , by the time I got to my spot Saturday, I was sweating enough to make sure every deer knew just where I was!! waste of time, just got out Saturday Am, was enough for me! Plenty of Hunters at the Stewards in Schroon at 10am wondering why they got up that early, opening day, heard a couple of shots, thats it...

Roland, you should have been at the Crossroads. That's where the "real hunters" get their coffee and swap stories! 'Course I wasn't there I was in Garrison, Tarrytown, and Tappan following John Andre's escape route...

Al, John Andre? why does that sound vaguely familiar, I lived near Garrison Putnam Ct for 20 years.

WTG Alex !!! Your freezer has meat, and that's a good thing .

I saw zip for deer on the opener - maybe it was the cranking wind and warm temps kept them tucked away ???

I saw eight deer, one being a decent buck, on the road into camp the night before the opener . As they say "That's why it's called hunting and not killing."

That's why a stayed home because of the damn heat. I hope things change for this weekend. Even the 50's are to warm to hunt the Dak's in my opinion.

Very glad to hear about your luck. My boy has arrowed a four and a seven point so far this year. I think he smells like a deer.
As far as the Sportsman board. I have spent only a little time there, or any other board lately do to too many hrs at work. I don't own the board, just got her rolling again, as it was in need of a boost. I'm not sure to what the problem is with it, just hope it's short lived. I really like reading about the Adirondacks and other places there.
Again, great job on harvesting the meat. I hope to hunt a little in the good old Adirondacks next year.
