I just returned from a 3-4 day trip at Puffer pond. I have been going there for years and have caught a lot of fish there. It's been some time but I just went on a trip to puffer for 4 days with a friend. It was his first time there and we were really excited to catch some trout. After days of fishing we caught none. WE didn't even see a fish in the water or jump the whole time we were there. It was rather dissapointing. WE tried all types of methods.
I did notice the water level was really low. Lowest I have ever seen it. All of the streams going into the pond were bone dry. There was a ton of salamanders, crayfish and leeches. I went in thewater and it was really warm. I know the deepest part is out in the middle and it's 10 feet. I waited out to my waist and still couldn't cast out into the deep water. This is were I figured the trout were due to the temp. of the water.
Does anyone know of something that happened there or in there area?? I'm thinking acid rain or something. I saw evedience in the leanto journal that someone in 2005 caught 2 14" brookies. WE also decided to take a hike to twin ponds. It was really neat and we found acanoe there. We figured we would have better luck in a boat at a new pond. It was 5 feet at the deepest and we fished both ponds all day and got nothing again. At twin ponds we did see little fish about 3-5 inches but nothing bigger.
Wondering if anyone has had similar expierences at these ponds. We are both expierenced fishermen and I have caught plenty fish at Puffer before but none at Twin ponds. I heard Puffer was stocked with 2000-2500 brookies. I don't know just wondering. The trip would have been a lot more fun if we caught some fish. It was half the reason for going. The trip had awesome weather and we really injoyed the new leanto at Puffer. Maybe better luck next time.
