I picked up my Super sportsmans license today and grabbed a regulations guide. Started looking through it at the counter...There are some articles about Citizen science, Deer Hunter/Deer Management, Hunting and Safety tips, Youth Hunting, Wildlife Research, CWD and bird flu, etc. No biggie - kind of cool I guess. But, the advertisements IMO are almost overwhelming.
At about page 10, there is finally some text that pertains to hunting and trapping. The previous pages are advertisements. I went through it when I got home and I think I counted over 70 ads. Many are small ads, but others are full page ads for ATVs, Dick's, bows, realtors. The whole guide is 80 pages. Over 70 ads in 80 pages!!! I believe J.F. Griffin (a Massachusetts based company) published this year's guide. The state couldn't find a NY based publisher? Come on, it's NY for cryin' out loud!!! Of course the Conservationist is/was published out of state too so I shouldn't be too surprised about NYS going out of state to do this
Obviously I'd rather see the guide have more discussion about the rules and regulations that pertain to hunting and trapping in New York than "land liquidation" sales in northern NY, Yamaha and Polaris ATVs, Bowtech and Parker bows, Kittery Trading Post (Maine!!!), land in Montana African Safaris,
. There's even a full page ad from the ARMY. Oh, I can't forget "Foxy Huntress" ladies apparel.
Are we in that bad a shape New York
?
