    Camillus Knives

As some of you might know Camillus cutlery closed its doors in February, I had several over the Years but like my sunglasses I always manage to loose them, will they be collectors items once supply runs out? I still have a nice folding hunter, wondering if I should keep it as souvenir, US made the old fashion way, not Pakistani or Chinese steel...

For once , it was the other way around .
If I came to you , a third generation employee, making barely double Min wage after 30 years with the same company , as your father , and grandfather did. Yes 15$ / hr . and told you that your hours would be reduced even more , you pay the full cost of your health insurance , and, by the way , take a 25% decrease in pay because of missmanagement
        How would you feel
The owners great grandchildren are living high on the hog in Fla. They did not spend any "hands on time" at the plant or do anything to keep the machinery updated , and stuff that I'm not gonna mention right now..
This case was mis management , lack of careing , and in my opinion a disgrace to the founders of the company that spent 12 -18 hours a day in the building and created a great legacy.

PS . That auction co is out of Fla. Not CNY

Even with Good management, it's hard for small companies to survive in todays economy especially in the Northland.
"If future generations are to remember us with gratitude rather than contempt, we must leave them more than the miracles of technology. We must leave them a glimpse of the world as it was in the beginning, not just after we got through with it." Lyndon B. Johnson

I'll probably go to the auction and see what's up.

They used to make a single blade folding lock back - the No. 3. Now that was a nice knife. I have one left (maybe another one, but it hasn't surfaced in at least three years). Wish I had a drawer full of them.

whats the general consensus on the knives still available retail, buy them and collect them, or use them as they where intended to be? or both..

My guess would be both. They are not going to make any more ever.
Brand new in the box , down the road will hold some collector value. Esp. if you have some Grandkids to pass them down to.
However , I believe that knifes , like any other tool , are made to be used .
For instance , aside from my grandfathers dimascus barreled shotgun , all the guns in the safe get used from the old Win 94 made in 1906 to the newest a Brownchester made in 1984.
Collectors like new in the origional packaging , If you save these they will bring top dollar.
Clear as mud like most of my posts

Ps. If you are thinking about going to the auction for a new knife , I believe those are packed away for another sale.

Hey Phil - any idea when that knife sale might be? I went to one of their sales not too long before they closed the doors and picked up a bunch of knives for very reasonable prices.

The only info I get is from Blade forums . There is a Camillus collector section there , this thread is about the auction.

You may have to sing up to read it but it's a free site with lots of forums.
