    NYS private hunting land

I was just reading about the new NY land acquisition in St. Lawence county of over 50,000 acres and it seems hunting will stay in the hands of a few private hunting clubs. I'm wondering what others here think about that. Should public $$$ be used to buy private hunting land? Personally I think not. For me that would be a deal breaker if I were the buyer.

If it's like some of the other land acquisitions this be a temporary thing. The state would buy land that had private leases on them. The State would honer those leases and the land would be open to the public once the leases run out. It's a compromise, but in the long run it's a pretty good deal.

As for this specific case, I don't know anything about it.
A man needs to believe in something. I believe I'll go hiking.

I agree. All other arrangements I have seen have mentioned existing leases would be honored in the near term. This deal, however, makes no mention.

I believe that it's the same type of deal as the Santa Clara Tract.

As long as the general public will get hunting rights when the leases expire I'm all for it. I do believe the leases should be honored in full though. A deal is a deal.
