    Rainbows on Fathers Day!

Well,I keep my ritual of fishing on Fathers Day going ...I hit a local stream during the heat and bright sun of the afternoon...probably the worst time to go ...but, at least I was out ...no, insect activity again...no rises...stream was alittle on the thin side..the nice runs of the previous trips were looking alot thinner...stream is showing the telltale sign of summer ...hope we get more rain to freshen it up soon..anyway, I was fortunate enough to catch alot of trout(12 or so)...nothing close to the hogs I got earlier from the same spot...but, these little guys were pretty frisky fighters...often breaking water and tail dancing ...had alot of fun with them...heres some pictures todays catch...

Wb- Rainbows in midday-now that's one nice father's day!

Sounds like a fun day WB

I hit one of my favorite trout ponds late last week. Like your day, it was very bright and warm...not at all a preferred day to be trolling for brook trout.

But the fishing gods were shining down on me almost as much as the sun...I caught 10 brookies that ranged from 8 to 12". Lost a couple more and had plenty of other hits. Most fish were caught/hit dragonfly imitations.

I kept five fish, three of them were bleeding and, IMO, probably wouldn't have made it. Anyway, I put them on ice and gave them to my dad yesterday for Pop's Day. Better than a gift certificate to any restaurant in the world

Sounds like you had alot of action out on that pond St.Regis!

Its nice to see brookies hitting like that ...glad you kept the ones that did`nt look too good...and I know your Dad will love those fish cooked up for supper...can`t beat that gift!

I fished my brains out and I gave up saying it was summer. You really are the master. I didn't see a thing. Caught some monster bass but I'm in the southern Daks around Wells. Tried some different back country creeks but struck out....again.

          Very nice fish

            Thanks Pumpkin,

But, I`m no way a master.. guys like Sero and Shaq are really good at taking big fish consistantly....did you see Shaq`s latest post? Now those are pretty big fish and very nice ...I can`t complain though...my brother and have gotten into some dandies this spring ,but, now, I need to focus like Shaq did, on rivers that are still running at a good level ...he did the leg work, I was lazy yesterday... Thats why all my fish were on the small side.

Anyway,I`ve been out alot this year ...almost every weekend and this weekend , my river just looked to be in the summer blues mode already ..as soon as i saw it,it looked on the low side , but my hopes were still pretty high, because one of my favorite runs upstream is quite deep and has a nice deep tail out...but,when I turned the bend and caught the first glimpse of the run, I was wondering if I was still on the right section of the river ...it did`nt even look familiar...and not very fishy looking like it has the past 5 weeks....oh, well, I just hope we get rain every now and then to freshen it up and keep those pretty fish alive...and...I might try my luck at some smallies with the flyrod when the dog days truly set-in...just hang in there Pumpkin, theres other fish around that will provide you with action...trout , especially wild trout ,don`t care much for warm and lower flows...hope your luck changes soon...glad to hear you`ve been getting out at least...theres not too many fresh reports on board here lately...

                Hey Sacredloon,

                Very nice plump splake!!!

They are said to be excellant table fair...I kept a few through the ice back when South Pond (Blue Mtn. Lake area) had them in it and when opened up , one look at that redish orange meat I knew they were gonna be tasty...so, enjoy!!

                  splake?

I thought it was a brook trout? I was fishing special brook trout waters, and I released him. Here is a better pic, higher res, is it a brookie or a splake?
One of the other ones I caught and kept had orange flesh.

                            Thanks guys!

I caught it with a Lake Clear wabbler (size 3 gold/silver) and worm. I use the red size 8 hooks, and swivels on both ends of the wabbler. I used a 12' leader and night crawler, they were about 4 feet down in the pond I was on. Caught 15 of them, and only kept one because it was foul hooked

yes its a Sportspal, Radisson canoe! I love it! I have 2 of them and have been very pleased. The 14' is great for 2 people plus gear. I sit in the middle with a sitbacker canoe chair on the floor and row around slowly. My 14' has cane seats which are really nice. My 12' has those foam devil seats that are uncomfortable, I highly recommend the sitbacker, it is much better on the back and butt, and I can sit in mine for 10 hours no problem.

Works great. Thanks to all of you for all your great advice last year and now that's helped me get the fish! Addicted for life!
