    finding trout waters

How did you find your favorite fishing spots? I'm not asking where they are, I just want to know how you go about finding those perfect, dependable fishing spots you just keep going back to and keep catching fish.

stories, things you look for, etc...
He found himself wondering at times, especially in the autumn, about the wild lands, and strange visions of mountains that he had never seen came into his dreams.

Word of mouth..famiy...friends..stocking lists...trail guides. I was lucky enough to grow up on a stream that couldn't have been more productive...now, though, to the ponds! Bigger fish....and I get to use my Hornbeck.

I’ve been going to the same spots since I was a kid, my father, grandfather and uncles have showed me these spots.

Sadly most of them are no longer alive but I know they are on the stream with me.

I remember when I was young seeing all of them lined up down the stream with their lines going in and out of the water. Now it’s just a memory.

I found a couple of spots recently on my own that I share with my father.

I hate to say it Hobbitling..but , once you`re on a stream near a bridge or parking lot... just start hiking either upstream or down..way away from people, the farther the better and buy a topo of that area...its either going to be great or not so great...but, once you find that honey hole, mark it on the topo... not many people will find it, cause not many are willing to work too hard these days...thank God!!

I`m sorry, I forgot to say...most designated trout streams , either on stocking sheets or articles in magazines/newspapers....are a good place to start.... and just pack a lunch and go...sometimes its fruitless/but, either way , you`re also out in the woods...I call it scouting, just like scouting out new hunting areas...a good time to do the map work is during the winter months...take a big river like the Battenkill,Ausable R., etc...and follow it on the maps...find possible secluded areas and mark them...then trek to it come trout season.....or ask, your fellow trout friend as a good starting point, then go from there...just my thought...

I love finding new trout holes to fish.Nothing works better than actually getting out there and scouting around. Some of my favorite tools are the DEC website, satelite image sites like terraserver, google earth etc, local fishing websites (like this one),topo maps, and a good thermometer.
Dont forget to ask the locals. Ive found that for every beer you buy a local sportsmen you get at least one tip. The tips increase dramatically after about six beers.Another tactic I use is take note of what the sucessful fisherman drives and make notes to where you see his vehicle parked. Some guys will park their vehicles in a spot to throw you off so be suspicious.

Anybody know what Sero,WB, and Marzrw drive?

Two of my favorite spots were shown to me by my great grandfather, which I think were shown to him buy his grandfather. I look forward to showing them to the next generation when I have kids.

I haven't hit either spot in a few years now. I think I'm over due for a revisit.
A man needs to believe in something. I believe I'll go hiking.

I use topo maps, books, and then I read everything on this board. If it's mentioned here, I go somewhere else. I try to find places that aren't mentioned anywhere...

As mentioned above, just start walking. You never know what you'll find...

Oh yeah , did we mention all the sweaty, tiring long bushwacks and getting turned around ,or maybe alittle lost... looking for that secret spot...my brother knows what I mean ...but, we never give up though...and regroup and change plans and still somehow enjoy the day...

                            Th,
Usually as long as its cold its gold ...but, I do prefer a Coors Light to quench the thirst after whipping the trout streams to a froth ...cold and crisp like a Rocky Mountain Stream...so they say...

WB Did you know that Coors Light has the most alcohol for a domestic mass produced beer? Thats why all the supermodels drink it cause they can get the wanted effect with less calories.
