    Fishing in Rollins/Whey pond

    Hi-

I was planning on doing some fishing this summer in Rollins Pond and Whey Pond. I haven't been there in a few years, but i do recall that there was a ban on using baitfish, am i remembering correctly? And if so is it both ponds? And does it cover all live bait (minnows, night crawlers, ect). Anyone else fish there with success?

The answer to these questions can always be found in special fishing regulations pages within the copy of the NYSDEC fishing regulation booklet you receive when you purchase your license. There is also a NYSDEC webpage that covers this. Look there, you'll find a restriction on Whey Pond in Franklin County listed restricting you to - "artificial lures only". A quick search of Rules and Regulations on Use of Bait defines artificial lures as distinct from natural bait (dead or alive fish, worms, etc.). So artificial lures only means just that, no natural bait allowed.

Have not fished Whey but I have Rollins and I have caught a few Largemouth and Lots of Bullhead. One Largemouth was 19 inches! Worm fishing is fine in Rollins but not Whey.I probably would not fish Rollins with minnows but if you do please make sure they are a minnow native to the pond.Lots of Largemouth and Bullhead in there, good luck!
