Being new in these parts, where can I get some details about current postings or warnings as far as eating Fish?

    Thanks

When you get your fishing license they give you a little book that explains all that. I'm sure the website has the most up to date information, it's just doesn't fit in a tackel box.

Has anyone ever caught carp in the Erie canal?

Yes and I have also seen them as large as a torpedo. 4'ers are not uncommon in some areas.
When they swim past you in shallow water at about 10 mph and they create a wake, you know they are BIG!

Yeah, the old episodes were all classics. The Stonecutters, Bart the General, Kamp Krusty.... It was the best thing on TV @ 7pm.

                  sad

The whole mercury and "dont eat any fish in the ADKs" thing is so darn depressing. I practice catch and release for the most part. I would like a meal a month or so though. Are you folks eating the fish? Scary situation, and makes me so sad I am thinking long term about moving to Alaska.
Miserable pollution! My neighbor eats trout all the time...like a meal a week at least. I think he catches mostly the stockies...do you think its safe to eat them?

I think it's safe to eat the stocked fish. You would think that they would have to be in the water for a certain length of time to become contaminated.

Besides I have been eating trout all my life and I turned out just fine.

Larger fish that prey on smaller fish have more mercury. As the bigger fish eat more of the smaller fish, they accumulate all of the mercury that all of the smaller fish they eat have accumulated. Also, younger fish will have less mercury than older fish. I'm sorry to say that the only fish I've ever seen free of Mercury in the Northeast are those that are raised in a hatchery. When we test fish for Mercury we need "blanks" and have been unable to buy or catch any fish free of Mercury, so we have to get hatchery fish.
