South Pond Hunting Camp in Watsons East Triangle

I put this video up on my YouTube channel recently, I think some of you may enjoy it! Watsons East Triangle was taken over by the state in the late 80's.
All the camps had to be removed by the end of 1990. I took this video in 1990, it was our last hunting season at South Pond.

That was fun to watch, thank you for sharing!
Was that Jesse Yousey at the 10:30 mark?
Our ol' pal Pondhopper, the legend!
    May he rest in peace.
I've been to his club's cabin on Bear Pond a couple times.
    Good times!

I watched it thanks for sharing. I worked for one of international Paper Company’s logging contractor there in the late 1970’s. We cut off Alder Bed Mtn., and also worked in the area called Deep Cut. Tragically one of my co-workers was killed there in a logging accident. The Bear Pond and Bear Lake Clubs purchased their leases from IP before the state purchased the rest of the former IP property, and still enjoyed their camps until just recently. They have now sold their properties to a preservationist group from VT.. TheBear Pond Club negotiated a several year lease agreement with the new owners. But when that expires, they are done as well.

i too have been in the area a few times over the years and seen a couple of camps on those area isolated ponds. One in particular, must have been sometime in the 1970's I remember had a larger than averge glass window that a brear obviously had no problem breaching and had made quite the mess inside. Most of those camps had much better protection than that, including electric fencing and spiked windows and very heavy doors.

          Justin,
My neighbor is a member of the Bear Pond Club and he confirmed that it was Jesse Yousey. I too have been to that club on several occasions. Hunt club camp cultures were/are a historic part of the ADK’s. Sad to see many of them disappearing.

I paddled and bushwhacked with Jesse a couple of times in the area. He had an early all carbon Hornbeck with a rowing rig. One time we stayed with Bill Ingersoll at the Sand Pond leanto. I remember he was not too happy with the Hornbeck because the gunwales were nothing more than rolled over carbon fiber that had cracked at the mid roll from the stress.
            RIP, Pondhopper ,Jesse
