    fishing mud lake

    Hey Everyone-

I was thinking of hiking to Mud Lake on the Northville Placid trail this spring or summer and was wondering how the fishing is there. I couldn't find it in the book I have, but figured that somebody must have been there fishing, so I thought I'd ask. Thanks a lot!!

Hi Pat, Mud Lake has some brook trout...

There was a pond survey done back in the early 90's and they netted enough brook trout to consider it fishable as I recall. Nothing real big though. I think they said a 12 incher was biggest one. The DEC stocks it every year I think with about 1200 brookies. You can look it up in the stocking lists by County on the DEC website for the exact numbers by year. I have never fished the lake but hiked back in and camped on a nearby ridge in the winter a few years ago. Nice woods. I may return to fish it sometime. The trail is a bit wet and muddy in places so bring rubber boots. Not a bad ~3 mi hike from the "Whitehouse" area.

I was thinking of Mud Lake along the NPT in the West Canadas. The book I have only has South Lake, Cat Lake, Cedars, Pillsbury, Whitney, Sampson, Spruce, and Northrup Lakes, But nothing on West Lake and Mud Lake. - Brookies too I guess.
