    west canada creek fishing

    THE WHITE FLIES ARE COMING

    adacker, droid, et al.

the white fly hatch on the west canada creek should be hitting this week and next.

for those unfamilar, it's an incredibly thick hatch, and one of the most exciting flyfishing times in the southwest daks.

i'll be on the river around dusk as many days as possible during the next couple of weeks.

exact location will vary according to the flies. they generally start around herkimer and slowly move upstream everyday (about a mile a day)

there's been some talk of meeting up; this would be a great opportunity.

Sounds like a blast, i get most of my fishing in on the evenings too

Admittedly, i'm a spin-casting guy -- hopefully that's not too too annoying. I've always wanted to learn the jedi-esque fly angling ways ('specially since I love targeting trout!). Maybe I can pick your brain a little bit. A friend offered me an outfit of hand-me-down fly fishing tackle, some their father used back in the day fishing for trout in the southern tier.... should probably take the offer. Mostly I'm afraid I'll have no clue what to do with it, and learn "the hard way" with nice equipment that was originally used by someone who knew what they were doing! :P

Anyways, I'll be on the road a good part of this week... I'll post when i get back, figure a couple days when i'll be out fishin' (which will be right away, i'll be back with an itch), see what paths we can cross!

i called the local fly shop.

looks like the whites won't be starting until next week.

The flies have their own shops?

i've gotta go to home depot tonight anyways, so while i'm up in utica i'm gonna stop in at the rising trout fly shop to get some of there new flies they've come up with specifically for this hatch.

i guess they're a white parachute with a glow in the dark post. should be nice since the action all takes place right as it starts getting dark.

still no sign of the whiteflies.

word on the street is that they should prolly start hatching in herkimer this weekend, then slowly get thicker and better as they move up stream during the week.

guess they're a little delayed this year with all the rain and sub-avg. temps.
