When I was young a guy was going to show me the difference between a "light" load and "duck" load for a Rem. 870. He loaded up the first with Red Dot powder and then the second with 700X. Only problem was that he forgot to change the bar. I didn't know anything about re-loading at the time so I didn't think anything of it.
Long story short, he shot the first one no problem. Second one peeled the barrel back like your pictures. The extractor flew back and cut the top of his head open pretty much front to back. He was ok but the 870 still hangs on the wall of the Sportsmans Club in Meadville PA as a reminder to be careful and pay attention.
Good grief, it looks like something from a cartoon. I can picture Elmer Fudd with soot on his face holding that.
Its not so funny in real life though.
He found himself wondering at times, especially in the autumn, about the wild lands, and strange visions of mountains that he had never seen came into his dreams.
thats expensive but not as expensive as one of my cousins who shot his model 8 to see where it was hitting the problem was there was snow in the barrel lucky those old guns have a shroud around the barrel but the gun barrel was destryoes and cant get another one.
