    Sacandaga River

    Just joined the group...
Was wondering if anyone had any info about fishing on the West or Main branch of the Sacandaga River. Are there any nice trout in there? Any suggestions as to wherer I might get into some?
I picked up about 15 smallies this past weekend, but was looking for trout.

Both branches have brown trout. A popular spot is just below the spillway in Wells. I see a lot of fly fishermen there all the time. It's just below my house.

As far as the west branch goes, not to familar with where the spots are. There are plenty of places off West River Road, going up into Whitehouse and i have seen fishermen in the gorge. You could also access the West Branch via the sacandaga Campground, it's joins the Main ranch there.

Anyone ever fish the West Branch off route 10 in Arietta? It's a beautiful place to canoe, but I haven't tried fishing there.

No, it's in Wells. As soon as you get into Wells, coming North on 30, take the first left, Algobquin Drive. Just across the bridge there is a parking area on the right. Park there and the Sacandaga is just over the guard rail.
