Has anybody fished anywhere in the Adirondacks yet this year? I have fished Schroon Lake, Lake George, Paradox Lake, and Putnam Pond. All are stocked with fish by the DEC. And 'bow hunters? Was wondering what people are catching, where, and with what?

oh. i prefer a flyrod instead.
shooting rainbows with my bow is pretty tough since they tend to hang out in the rapids or down deep in the summer
seriously though, i don't usually get to the eastern daks too often as i live near the southwest parts
i believe lumberzac hits the areas your talking about pretty frequently.
i thinks he's outta town right now, but will probably be back soon.Fly Fisher's Anglers Association- a fine drinking club with a fishing problem

i've hit crane pond and only came up with large and small mouth bass...same goes with Lake Lilla, although we did catch a perch...
i've been in a ton of streams and caught browns, brookies, and bass..
streams i've been in,
West Canada,
Grass River.
Oswegatche(SP?)
Raquette River,
Sacandaga River, and East and West Branches
I'm heading down to the Catskills this weekend for some hiking and fishing. i'll let you know what's down there...
most of my fishing is with fly rod...that entails many assortments of flies...
happy hiking/fishing
and welcome aboardComment

Did someone say my name? I actually haven’t gotten out fishing too much this year. But I have caught some fish. Small mouth and rock bass out of Sacandaga, some small brook trout out of the Boquet River, some larger brook trout out of Grizzle Ocean, and some guys I fish with caught some monster brookies out of Cedar River.
A man needs to believe in something. I believe I'll go hiking.

we fished in Avalanche Lake, and Lake Colden. No luck. Ha! Damn that acid rain. Any lakes over a certain elevation are fish-less.oh well.

i'm pretty familar with a few of the cats' trout streams. i had the pleasure of surveying and mapping the flood plains of greene county. spent nearly every workday in greene county for over a year (tough job, eh?)
i've fished the schoharie quite abit along with it's tribs, some on the catskill, and the main stem and east and west branches of the delaware.
i'd say that this time of year your best bets are the rivers with cold water releases. (east and west branches of the delaware, below their dams)
the schoharie's gonna be pretty warm and shallow right now, but much of the best fishing on it is right along route 23A.Fly Fisher's Anglers Association- a fine drinking club with a fishing problem

I'm a pretty unlucky fisherman (I loooove fishing, but I'm there for the beer and the lack of computers as much as I am the fishing), but... My girlfriend has been catching some smaller rainbow trout south-west of the 'dacks in Clinton, NY (on Oriskany Creek).
We did some fishing on the Middle Branch Moose river earlier this month. Caught a half-decent Brookie (10" or so), and rockbass.
I'm not a fly fisherman, so all spinner fishing 'ere. I've gotten almost all my hits with dillies (the little trout worms), and using a "Saugeen River Trout Float Rig", or as I call it "that trout rig".
I used to catch rainbow stockies in a creek in my backyard (in NH) as a kid, fishing with kernels of canned corn. For some reason, there was a rumor/rural-legend that fishing with corn was illegal, maybe cause it worked so well there. I don't know why I haven't tried it lately. Have had horrific luck trying artificials when trout fishing. I've caught crickets and crawfish and fished them... but without luck."ya gotta get a better view outside, cause you'll burn right up inside, through the knowledge fools get the mileage, birds eye view, catch all this" -delComment

have you tried the west canada creek?
it's not that far from you and is a much better trout stream - though few rainbows if that's what your looking for.Fly Fisher's Anglers Association- a fine drinking club with a fishing problem

sacco, thanks for the tipI just looked it up on a topo, and I can't believe how close it is. definately psyched to give it a try. looks like a decent size creek from the topo too, awesome.
when it comes to trout, i'm not all too too biased.... ok i'm biased, i like the lunker monster biggunsseriously though, i'll go for any -- rainbows, browns or brookies.

it is a very large creek - bigger than many other rivers in NY
if you really want a lunker brown trout, it's one of the best waters in the whole state for them.
here's some sites with some info on it:
remember - the trophy section is catch + release/ no live bait.Fly Fisher's Anglers Association- a fine drinking club with a fishing problem

hey where do you work,, i'm at the business park in Utica and work for NetTest...
anytime you want to head up to the West Canada let me know. i usually head up there 1-2 times a week after work..
it's perfect as it's only 30min to the places that i head to..
but with this rain, it seems like i won't be out for another two weeks....a least it's keeping the waters cool!!!1Comment
