    Bummed...

Hey folks, I recently planned a camping/fishing trip to Upper Sargent. I have been there on 3 other occasions and love it. This year there was bit of ummmm..... "miscommunication" with the float plane air service and it appears that a group of 24 Boy Scouts was going to be there the same weekend. This wouldn't really work for us, so my question to all of you is.... do you know of any other float plane air services in the Old Forge or Inlet area that may bring a group of 12 people to a specified, (or suggested), location? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

P.S. Paynes Air Service is the one I'm already familiar with.

I don't have the phone number in front of me but Helms Air Service in Long Lake. I used their service a few times but not in recent years.

Bird's is out of business now so other then Paynes there is no one in or around the Inlet Old Forge area.

Since Don Bird died Payne's is the only air service in the area. Helm's out of Long Lake is probably the next closest to Inlet. Maybe ask Payne's if they can recommend another lake?

Thx a lot guys...my bro-in-law found one out of Long Lake who somewhat "partners" with Payne. We will be flying into Lwr Sargent instead. Anyone know how the fishing is there? Any tips or suggestions would be great. (Hopefully there are some bass in there!)

Is there some reason why you must fly instead of hike into there???

There are several older gentleman that aren't in good enough shape to hike in. I hiked in there last fall when I was bear hunting so I know it's easy enough...but with the canoes and all. The short fly in is very inspiring as well. It's a great way to begin the trip, seeing the picturesque landscape from above.

Lower Sargent's a touchy subject in the "trout community". Do a forum search using the keyword: "sargents".

Sadly, there's plenty of largemouths in shallow.

Yikes...apparently "bass" is another bad 4 letter word to many here. It IS unfortunate that bass were introduced to these ponds in the way that they were, but as an equal opportunist I'll try to catch them as well as trout. It also appears that many don't care for the plane traffic in and out of these ponds as well as other places

where flying into a certain few ponds is allowed by the powers that be.
