    pond fishing?

Hello all... i am new here, and excited to correspond with some of you.
my question is this... do you find that the warmer months are less
favorable for catching trout in the smaller ponds? or , is it a matter
of techniques and/or lures and bait ? i like to hike in and use my inflatable
to fish the ponds. i've had luck in the brooks , but not the ponds in
    may/june. thanks.

    Welcome aboard !!! Brookfinder,

Wish I could help you, but, I`m 99 % a stream fisher...but, I`m sure alot the fishers on this board will chime in sooner or later...hang in there..they`re probably out in pursuit of their finny friends as we speak...

I'm not much of a pond fisherman, not much of a fisherman to begin with, I just dabble at it here and there... try this ,try that..woo whoo yep that worked ! Chase the dog out of the water and move on... or paddle on.

In the small ponds that I fish this time of year getting deep is key and slow trolling a streamer about 12-14" behind a couple split shot seems to work if you vary it's action by changing speed and turning often to cover alot of area. Use plenty of leader if you are loop to loop attaching to your floating line so the fly can get deep enough. Good luck.

Check out the old threads about Lake Clear Wabblers & structure and such, too.

in the early part of june in the north the water is still not real warm and the fish can be found about 2 to 10 feet below the surface as the weather warms go deepertil you find the thermocline. as for lures you can use a wabbler and just run it deep or a christmas tree and troll a little slower but it is what ever the fish wants and the weather but calm mornings are the best.

I fish trout in some small ponds. In the warmer months finding holes, especially if there are underwater springs is said to be the best bet. I usually give up on trout in the warm months and focus on bass instead.

How is it that you are heading west? Well, we face north and then really sudden like turn left.
