Got up to Wards camp in Speculator Friday evening with plans to fish both Saturday and Sunday. Had a little tree work to do Saturday morning, then left for a nice small lake with the yaks. By the time we got to the trailhead, a nice rain had begun. Headed onto a some nice water after about a 30 minute hike. By the time we got onto the water, it was raining nicely, winds about 10-20 mph. Despite the gore-tex and the spray skirts, it was a wet damp one. After fishing in relentless conditions for about 3 hours we trolled back to shore, where I got my first, and only major strike of the day. I saw enough disturbed water to see that thyere was something to it. Unfortunatly it was gone as quick as it was on. After another 30 minute hike out, we got the yaks and gear back in the truck. Just then new DEC officer in the area stopped over to our vehicle to chat about what, where etc. Real nice guy and as it turns out, he's renting currently in the same area my camp is. Got back to Wards place and hung all the gear over the woodstove, while getting some venison steaks, dirty rice and fresh mushrooms put together. Oh yes, and beverage of choice. Waited the rain out today until about noon. Fished Lake Pleasant for about 2 1/2 hours, but the frozen fingers just gave out. Dropped the yaks off at my place and returned to Wards, where once again we've got the gear hanging next to the wood stove. Another beautiful weekend in the daks. slamdog/ward

Slamdog,
Sounds like a rough two days...mother nature really can throw a whammy at ya
...its crazy sometimes the things outsdoorsman will go through to enjoy their favorite pastimes...to me, its still worth it....beats laying on the couch all weekend....we were lucky, my brother and I hit our favorite stream before the monsoon started and...he netted a beautiful brown right before the winds and rains started...what a way to end the day....
"Get your mind off trout,if you can.I know they`ve got you.I can see it. Every fraternity of sufferers knows its brothers.Trout hook men;men don`t hook trout.Better try and throw the hook while you can.By the time you`re a grown man there probably won`t be a pure trout healthy enough to fiddle with"... I gave up trying to head up to our camp in the 1000 Island to open it up when I saw the weather coming in. Stayed home, and as luck would have it, UPS delivered me a new JP Ross Beaver 6'6" 2/3 fly rod. I attached a new reel to it and hit a local stream (it was sprinkling, not raining...yet) and was fortunate enough to land this. The weekend was not a total loss!Attached Files"The trail is what it is. If it goes up, over, under -- there is the choice to follow it or not. As for weather, it will be what it will be.
