    Little Tupper Lake

There was an article in the Albany Times Union last year about the decline of the "heritage strain" Brook Trout fishery due to the intentional malicious release of Bass into the Lake. Supposedly, the bass had the competitive advantage over the BT, and had already quite negatively impacted on trout fishing. Anyone with more information on this? Personally, I caught no BT in the 3 days I fished Little Tupper last year; however I did hook one in Rock Lake; and caught several in Little Tupper in 2004.

I seriously hope that is not true, but I wouldnt be surprised if it was. About 5 years ago, before I took up flyfishing, me and the wifey went there with spincasting gear on a awesome september day. I caught a small brookie from shore while we were taking a break from paddling and noticed some Loons across the lake that looked like they were having a feast. I suggested we slowly approach the area and try our luck.
In stealth mode we inched closer and noticed several fish taking bugs off the surface. My wife casted a panther martin spinner towards the rising trout as I paddled the canoe. Wham a nice 10" heritage strain brookie! We fished that area until almost dark and never caught another fish! We were right in the middle of a nice hatch and it was awesome to just sit there and watch them feed.
I would have paid good money for a flyrod and a dry flie!It was then that I decided I needed to buy some new gear and start flyfishing. Unfortunately Ive never been back up there again. Those brookies were protected/managed for so long it would be a huge loss if they are gone.

I was under the impression that a local "Sporting" club threatened DEC that if they insisted on "Catch & Release" regulations they would release bass into Little Tupper. I could have received information from same news story. I recall also that due to this perceived threat & the fact that bass are now present in the lake, that DEC was considering caving in and allowing for some trout to be kept; perhaps on a "Slot" length basis. I don't know the current regulation. I believe Little Tuppr was used as a DEC fisheries source for the "Heritage" strain that was stocked throughout NYS. It will be a sad loss of a valuable & irreplaceable resource.

Nope. Lows is a different lake which is near Little Tupper.
