I've never fished Lake Colden, but if I had to guess, I would say it would contain trout, that is if it isn't acid dead. More than likely it will still be frozen over next weekend. Henderson Lake was still frozen and there was still at least 12" of snow on the ground at Tahawus last week (3/20).
A man needs to believe in something. I believe I'll go hiking.

According to an 1990 article (Fish Story: The Great Acid Rain Flimflam by Edward C. Krug ) in an UofI reasearch paper.

Lake Colden was one of the best trout fly fishing lakes in the eastern U.S. Teddy Roosevelt fished there often; he was vacationing at Lake Colden when President McKinley was shot. Lake Colden is highly acidic (pH 5.0) and nearly fishless. It is held up as the classic case of acid rain’s destructiveness.
Not sure if that still holds true today or not.

here is an excelent site about lakes ponds etc in the adirondacks. It will tell you types of fish found in the lakes and acidity levels and much much more. Sadly enough when I looked up lake colden It shows of no fish being caught, but that was in 1987. Check the site out for yourself. Just click on ALS Pond Data on the heading on the homepage. I'm sure it will be very useful and informative to all.
