    First canoe/fishing trip to ADK

I am new to the NE and am getting into canoeing and fishing. I would like to take a 3-6 day canoe trip in the spring or summer. I have been looking at the Northern Forest Canoe Trail to begin to plan something. The trail is broken into something like 13 sections of which I can buy a map for whichever I chose.

I am in need of some advice as to which section to look into. I live in Amherst, MA, but would drive to any section as I don't think any would be to terribly far away. I enjoy bass fishing and my buddy likes to trout and salmon fish, but we are up for really any type of fishing. I am looking for a section of trail that is fairly remote, scenic, with great fishing. We would like to take our 16' canoe and some basic camping equipment to explore and catch fish.

If anyone has some knowledge or advice on this trip I would greately appreciate to hear from you since I have never done a trip like this before. Thanks in advance!

I haven't heard of "Northern Forest Canoe Trail" -do you have any links to info? I've canoed a lot in the Saranac Lakes area, and always wanted to do an 'epic' canoe trip like this one.

I did the entire NY section, and then some, last summer. Departed Boonville by foot and paddle with a Hornbeck canoe and landed on the eastern shore across Plattsburgh's Cumberland Bay on Lake Champlain a week later.
PM me with any specific questions on details.
The Northern Forest Canoe Trail is a 740-mile water trail from Old Forge, New York to Fort Kent, Maine.

Well, the Northern Forest Canoe Trail would certainly qualify as an epic adventure. Just the NY section would be a mini-epic. Boonville to Plattsburgh, very cool.

My friends and I did the Low's Lake - Oswagotchie River trip in 98 - one hell of a big portage in the middle - but it was a good trip.
We returned to our trucks to find some one had shotgunned the radiators and engines - but that was an after fact - the trip was work and play all at once...beautiful scenery and good friends made it memorable....the fishing was fair to midland......

              Hikercop45,
You mean that someone really blew holes in your trucks radiators and engines? Thats unbelievable in this day `n age ....I hope you found out who and/why they did it and had justifiable paybacks .....whats the Adirondacks turning into ....sounds like a segment from the movie "Deliverance"....pretty scary stuff... I thought those days were over....

Hope your future trips are less eventful

That's pretty scary at the end of that road. I've parked there many times for that same trip, but worried more at other places.
