Right - no I was talking about the deer actually eating the maple seedling vs the beech. Apparently they don't like to eat beech seedlings. Beech nuts I can see.
I have to be honest, in all my years hiking I don't think I've ever seen a deer when I was moving, be it Adirondacks or not. They usually smell or hear you coming.
Most deer I've seen in the park were actually around camps in the Fulton Chain area.
