Reminds me of my own heritage, Carpathian Lemko folk of southern Poland where I was fortunate to have visited and found relatives living there before Covid hit. I discovered numerous such songs of the region and of nearby Ukraine. Including the Winged Hussars, who were given credit for having saved Vienna and the West from the invading Mongols from the Far East. Many years ago I interviewed my pateranal grandfather before he died and he sang a song on tape for me that I did not much think about until a recent discovery piqued my memory. How surprised was I to discover that he was singiing the traditional Winged Hussar song of the Poland-Lithuania Commonwealth.
