    Ice Fishing for backwoods brookies?

Does anyone have any tips tricks or secrets for backwoods lakes and large brookies? I have a book with several of the lakes I go to that has the contours of the lake bottoms. I would really love to nail a brookie over the 20 inch mark. Any info will be appreciated. Thanx, Jason

Most of the backwoods lakes I fish in season are closed to ice fishing. However, I'd like to know what brookie lakes or ponds are usually fished in the winter. I've never tried for them in the Winter.

Swizzle, PM Hugh about a jig he ties.

Pretty sure you cant legally icefish for brookies in lakes and ponds that contain them however there are numerous lakes and ponds where you can icefish for rainbows, browns and lakers. Hugh

Pretty much the only spots open to ANY trout ( rainbow, brown, brookie) for ice fishing are in the fishing guide under the individual county regs. If you see "ice fishing permitted" next to a body of water in the guide, it means that it is trout water that is open to ice fishing. Otherwise, all trout waters are closed to ice fishing. If you've ever caught them after April 1st near the ice edges, you'd know, it's not really too sporting since they'll bite anything.
